NSS SYMBOL:

Not Me, But You

The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, and preservation, which signifies the movement in life across time and space.

The symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

Badge:

  • The NSS Symbol is embossed on the badge. The eight bars in the wheel represent the 8 pehar (pihr) of the day(1 pehar=3hours X 8= 24 hours of a day).
  • The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit.
  • The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

MOTTO:

Not Me, But You

The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service of the Society.

Governing Bodies and Objectives
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is one of the prime community service organ of the Institution with the objectives of building social consciousness and inculcate the Value of dignity for Manual work among future teachers, the nation Builders. NSS provides an opportunity to students, in the capacity of volunteers, to venture out of their comfort zones and make a difference to society. Inspired by this philosophy, the college has established NSS in 19, comprises of a gamut of events and activities undertaken by volunteers who have channelized their creativity and spirit of volunteerism to bring about meaningful change in society. The Coordinator NSS Programme, Panjab University, Chandigrah sanctioned 2 and half NSS units to the college under Unit Code: PB-06-026.

Objectives of the NSS:

  • Understand the community in which volunteers work.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibilities.
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  • Develop competence for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Develop among them Sense of dignity of Manual Work.
  • Develop among them leadership qualities.
NSS Activities
Regular Activities of NSS UNIT:

Apart from being a part of activities launched by Panjab University’s NSS, we at Malwa undertake numerous projects on regular bases that focus on a broad spectrum of issues in different social spheres which includes:
  • Education for underprivileged children by organising Donation and Medical Checkup camps for slum schools and rural children especially Girls,
  • Capacity building of the Weaker sections of the society (Women) by Creating Self-help groups,
  • Caring for the elderly visits to old age homes and organising Senior citizen Days etc.,
  • Intervention techniques for the differently-abled and intellectually challenged by visiting and working with Orphanage and child care centres,
  • Working for health centres and Civil Hospitals associated with patients suffering from AIDS and Cancers of various kinds etc.
Every year more than 500 volunteers work ceaselessly and engage in various issues of social concern. The NSS programme endeavors to sensitize the students to various social issues through discussion, debate, talks, seminars, workshops, music, awareness campaigns i.e. rallies, tree plantation etc . Apart from this, we have worked closely with organisations such as Rotary International, Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon, Glodas Chapter, India and have collaborated Glodas Chapter, India.
Special Campaigning Activity:

NSS Unit of the College on the regular bases organise 7 days Special Camps of NSS Volunteers to provide them real life experiences and orient them about actual problem of the society in which they are living.
